چکیده

The seismic response assessment of rocking systems via Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA) is investigated, focusing on the issues that arise in analysis and postprocessing stages. Rocking IDA curves generally differ from those hysteretic structural due to (i) frequent appearance resurrections; (ii) their highly weaving non-monotonic behavior; (iii) overall high variability. Hence, including or ignoring results above first resurrection level, deriving statistics given a level versus an intensity measure as well selecting adequate number ground motion records runs per record, become challenging with non-trivial impact probabilistic characterization response. This necessitates fresh view choices post-processing techniques, aiming assure accuracy fidelity results. As example, effect different techniques are showcased two-dimensional rigid blocks assumed represent simplified models monolithic ancient columns slenderness.

Approximate Incremental Dynamic Analysis Using Reduction of Ground Motion Records

Incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) requires the analysis of the non-linear response history of a structure for an ensemble of ground motions, each scaled to multiple levels of intensity and selected to cover the entire range of structural response. Recognizing that IDA of practical structures is computationally demanding, an approximate procedure based on the reduction of the number of ground m...

Dynamic Harmonic Balance Principle and Analysis of Rocking Block Motions

The harmonic balance (HB) principle is a powerful and convenient tool for finding periodic solutions in nonlinear systems. In the present paper, this principle is extended to transient processes in systems with one single-valued odd-symmetric nonlinearity and linear plant not having zeros in the transfer function, and named the dynamic HB. Based on the dynamic HB, first the equations for the am...

Seismic Reliability Analysis of Offshore Fixed Platforms Using Incremental Dynamic Analysis

It is generally accepted that performance-based design has to be reliability-based. Seismic performance evaluation is based on nonlinear dynamics and reliability theory taking into account uncertainties during analysis. Considering the economic importance of jacket type offshore platforms, the present research aims to assess the seismic performance of offshore steel platforms. In this study, th...

Seismic Design of Steel Structures Based on Ductility and Incremental Nonlinear Dynamic Analysis

In this paper a simple tool for seismic design of steel structures for a selected ductility level is presented. For this purpose, a consistent set of earthquakes is selected and sorted based on the maximum acceleration of ground surface. The selected records are applied as the base motion to a single-degree-of-freedom system with strain hardening and the maximum response acceleration is determi...

Incremental Quantitative Analysis on Dynamic Costs

In quantitative program analysis, values are assigned to execution traces to represent a quality measure. Such analyses cover important applications, e.g. resource usage. Examining all traces is well known to be intractable and therefore traditional algorithms reason over an over-approximated set. Typically, inaccuracy arises due to inclusion of infeasible paths in this set. Thus path-sensitivi...
